Septic System Installation in West Columbia, SC

Septic Installation · West Columbia, SC

We put in new systems, and we repair or replace the ones that have failed.

Septic system installation starts with a permit design and ends with a field that moves water away from the house. Dirt Cheap puts in new septic systems on lots around West Columbia and out through the rest of the Midlands. Some go on new construction and raw rural land, where there is no city sewer line to tie into. Others are septic tank replacement jobs, where an old system has failed and the whole thing has to come out.

Dirt Cheap is a family owned and woman owned business, run from a shop on Edmund Highway in West Columbia. Our crew runs the excavators and dozers and is on the job site daily. We cover about 50 miles out from that shop, and the same machines handle trenching and storm drain work. Estimates are free, so call (803) 796-4727 and we will come out and look at the lot with you.

What happens on a septic tank installation, start to finish?

Call us and tell us what the lot needs, and whether a permit design is already in hand. We come out and look at the ground, and we read that design before any dirt gets moved. The county health department permit sets the tank size, and it marks where the drain field lines have to run. We build the system to match that paper, right down to the depth and the length of the trenches.

On install day the excavator opens the tank hole and cuts the trenches that will hold the field lines. We set the tank level, then run the sewer line from the house out to that tank. The field lines go in at the depth and spacing the design calls for, one trench at a time. The health department signs off before we cover the work, and then we backfill and smooth the ground down.

What does a new septic system cost in the Midlands?

Price comes down to what the permit design calls for and how hard the lot is to work in. A bigger house needs a bigger system, because the health department sizes the tank off the bedroom count. Soil is the other big piece of it, and that part is set by the ground you already have. Slow draining ground needs more field line, so there is more trench to dig and more pipe to lay.

Access changes the number too, along with the distance from the house out to where the field goes. Trees in the way have to be knocked down and the stumps pulled before the dig can start. A repair on one broken line runs smaller than a new drain field or a whole new system. We put a number on it after we see the lot, so call (803) 796-4727 for a free estimate.

Midlands soil and what it means for your drain field

Midlands ground changes from one lot to the next, and sometimes from one corner of the yard to another. Some yards are heavy red clay that sits wet and holds water for days after a hard rain. Others sit in sandy Sandhills dirt that drains fast and can call for a different kind of design. The health department checks the soil before the permit is written, and the design follows what they find.

Sewer lines stop well short of a lot of property once you get out of town. Around Orangeburg and Blythewood, plenty of homes run on a system of their own instead of a sewer tap. When a field quits taking water, we open the ground back up and put in new line. Once the tank and the lines are in, we shape the ground so water runs away from the field.

FAQ

Septic Installation Questions, Answered

Common questions about septic installation across the Midlands. Don't see yours? Give us a call and ask.

Call (803) 796-4727

Do I need a permit before a septic tank installation?
Yes, the permit has to be in hand before the first shovel of dirt moves. The health department looks at the soil and the layout of the lot first. Then it writes a design that sets the tank size and the drain field location. We build the system to that design, and estimates are free.
Can you fix a septic system instead of replacing it?
Sometimes. A broken line or a section of failed drain field can be dug up and put back right. When the whole field has quit taking water, a new system usually makes more sense than a patch. We handle the repair and the full replacement, so call (803) 796-4727 and we will come look.
What does a septic tank replacement involve?
A replacement means the old system comes out and a new one goes in on a fresh permit design. The old tank leaves on our own truck as part of the job. We dig the new tank hole and the field trenches, then fill in the old hole. The ground gets smoothed back down before we leave.
Can you install a septic system on a wooded lot?
Yes. We cut the trees and brush with our own dozers and excavators, then dig the system on the same trip. Stumps and root balls come out while the machine is already there. That saves you from lining up a second contractor and waiting on another machine. It also keeps the ruts to one pass across the yard.
Do you handle septic tank installation near me?
We work about 50 miles out from West Columbia, which covers most of the Midlands. That takes in Lexington and Richland counties and the rural land out past them. Tell us where the lot sits and we will tell you whether it is in range. The estimate costs you nothing, so call (803) 796-4727.

Why Choose Dirt Cheap

Why Midlands Property Owners Call Us

Real Demolition Equipment

Full size CASE excavators, dozers and a tri axle Kenworth dump truck. Machines sized for two story houses, commercial buildings and whole lots. A mini excavator crew cannot do this work.

Teardown to Finished Site

One contractor takes the structure down, clears the lot, brings in fill, grades it flat and can finish with gravel, concrete or a septic system. No handoffs between companies, no waiting on a second crew.

Debris Leaves With Us

Hauling off the mess is part of the job, on our own trucks. The site gets cleaned as the teardown happens, so when the machines load up and leave, the lot is done.

West Columbia Is Home

The shop sits on Edmund Highway, so Columbia, Lexington and Cayce are minutes away. Family and woman owned. Call and you talk to our office, not a call center.
