Cayce sits on red clay. The Guignard family dug that clay off the Congaree bank starting around 1801. They burned brick from it for generations, and the old kilns still stand near the Riverwalk. Red clay holds water, so a wet lot turns slick and ruts under a loaded truck. We plan the machine path and the exit route before the first wall comes down.
Low ground near the Congaree is a different problem. The river crested at 31.81 feet in the October 2015 flood. Cayce called a voluntary evacuation for homes near the river during Helene in 2024. Older Cayce streets also hide old service lines. Water, sewer, gas, and power runs were set decades ago and are not always on the map. Everything gets located and cut before a machine touches the building. When a drain line fails under an older parking lot, we open the ground and get down to the pipe.
Lexington County holds a lot of manufactured housing, and Cayce lots are no exception. The 29033 ZIP alone counts a few hundred mobile homes. We pull single wides and double wides out whole or take them apart on site. Michelle Gumm said in her Google review: "Contracted them to demolish a double wide on my property. They did it quickly and cleaned up great. Even brought in fill to level the area out." Detached garages, carports, barns, sheds, and in ground pools come down the same way. Debris leaves on our own trucks as part of the job.
The commercial side of Cayce runs along Charleston Highway and out toward the airport. That corridor is lined with warehouses, older retail strips, and small industrial buildings near the CSX and Norfolk Southern rail. Columbia Metropolitan Airport sits just west of the city limits, and Dominion Energy runs its headquarters here. When one of those older buildings gets replaced, the slab and the footings have to go with it. We also take down churches and strip malls, plus burnt and dilapidated houses under municipal contracts.
