Floors, Decks and Concrete Coated in Cayce

Dirt Cheap is a demolition contractor working in Cayce, South Carolina. Cayce sits in Lexington County, on the west bank of the Congaree River. Downtown Columbia is right across the Blossom Street Bridge. Most of Cayce was built out decades ago. The Avenues went up in the 1940s and 1950s, when veterans came home from the war. Its streets still run alphabetically from Augusta to Poplar. In the 29033 ZIP, more homes were built in the 1960s than in any other decade. Broad Acres, Churchill Heights, Granby Oaks, and Riverland Park all carry that older stock. Small brick ranch homes and bungalows sit on tree shaded lots. Old property brings old problems. Detached garages lean. Carports rust out. Back lot sheds and barns outlive their use. Some yards still hold a mobile home nobody wants. Along Charleston Highway and Knox Abbott Drive, tired commercial buildings sit on ground worth more empty. Owners want the block and the slab gone so the lot can be used again.

We are a family business. Our crew runs the equipment and is on job sites every day, and a real person picks up the office phone. The business is woman owned. Our shop is on Edmund Highway in West Columbia. That highway runs along the western edge of Cayce and follows the city line part of the way. Cayce is a short drive for us, on our own side of the river. We run full size excavators and dozers. A tri-axle Kenworth dump truck and trailers bring the machines to the job. We handle house and mobile home teardowns and commercial building demolition. We also do land clearing, grading, gravel driveways, concrete flatwork, and septic installs. Estimates are free. Call (803) 796-4727.

What makes a Cayce lot different to work on?

Cayce sits on red clay. The Guignard family dug that clay off the Congaree bank starting around 1801. They burned brick from it for generations, and the old kilns still stand near the Riverwalk. Red clay holds water, so a wet lot turns slick and ruts under a loaded truck. We plan the machine path and the exit route before the first wall comes down.

Low ground near the Congaree is a different problem. The river crested at 31.81 feet in the October 2015 flood. Cayce called a voluntary evacuation for homes near the river during Helene in 2024. Older Cayce streets also hide old service lines. Water, sewer, gas, and power runs were set decades ago and are not always on the map. Everything gets located and cut before a machine touches the building. When a drain line fails under an older parking lot, we open the ground and get down to the pipe.

Old buildings and mobile homes on Cayce lots

Lexington County holds a lot of manufactured housing, and Cayce lots are no exception. The 29033 ZIP alone counts a few hundred mobile homes. We pull single wides and double wides out whole or take them apart on site. Michelle Gumm said in her Google review: "Contracted them to demolish a double wide on my property. They did it quickly and cleaned up great. Even brought in fill to level the area out." Detached garages, carports, barns, sheds, and in ground pools come down the same way. Debris leaves on our own trucks as part of the job.

The commercial side of Cayce runs along Charleston Highway and out toward the airport. That corridor is lined with warehouses, older retail strips, and small industrial buildings near the CSX and Norfolk Southern rail. Columbia Metropolitan Airport sits just west of the city limits, and Dominion Energy runs its headquarters here. When one of those older buildings gets replaced, the slab and the footings have to go with it. We also take down churches and strip malls, plus burnt and dilapidated houses under municipal contracts. After a building is gone, the lot rarely sits flat. We can regrade the lot after the machines pull off. The same equipment covers Cayce, Columbia just across the bridge, and Lexington to the west. Estimates are free. Call (803) 796-4727.

I had an emergency involving my mobile home, not only was it after hours when they made the decision to come help me. The next morning they showed up and went above and beyond their call of duty as far as the job I hired them to do. Great people, fantastic work!

Cayce FAQ

Questions From Cayce Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Cayce. Don't see yours? Call the office and ask.

Call (803) 796-4727

How much does demolition cost in Cayce?
Cost depends on the building, not a flat rate. Size and how it was built move the number most. What is inside matters, and so does access, since a tight Cayce lot slows the machines down. Landfill distance and site cleanup factor in too. Estimates are free, so call (803) 796-4727 and we will price your job.
Do I need a permit to tear down a building in Cayce?
Yes. A demolition permit has to be in hand before anything comes down. Inside the Cayce city limits that comes from the city building department. On property outside the limits, the Lexington County building department handles it. Power, water, gas, and sewer service also have to be disconnected before demolition starts.
Can you remove an old mobile home from a Cayce property?
Yes. We take out single wides and double wides on lots in Cayce and around Lexington County. The home comes out whole or comes apart on site, depending on its condition and the access. Steps, skirting, decks, and the old pad go with it. We can bring in fill and level the spot after. Call (803) 796-4727.
